Hi, I’m Laura.
And if there is one thing I cannot stand, it is being put in a box—unless, of course, that box is wrapped in exceptionally beautiful paper.
Graphic designer? Paper artisan? Bookbinder? Creative?
The truth is, I am multidisciplinary. For over a decade, I sat in front of a screen, designing visual identities for the hospitality industry. But in a world sprinting relentlessly toward the digital, I found myself craving something tangible. I hungered for substance, texture, and tactile weight. So, at a certain point, I shut down my computer.
I didn’t abandon design; I simply dragged it out of the digital monitor and brought it into the physical realm. I fused years of branding and communication experience with contemporary, artisanal bookbinding techniques.
Today, I use my vision as a creative designer to give structure to paper, textiles, and threads. I create luxury stationery items that demand to be touched long before they are ever used.
Why.
Saimai.
The name comes from a familiar, affectionate Italian phrase: "Non si sa mai"—you never know.
It’s what we all say when we are about to throw something away, but instinct stops us. A beautiful sheet of paper, a textile offcut, a test print. At Saimai, a clever shift happens: you drop the negative, strip away the superfluous, and you are left only with pure possibility ("sai mai"—you never know). Saimai isn't about hoarding; it is about conscious design.

This concept holds incredible power. It speaks of patience, time, and unexpressed potential. The true heart of my studio is not just simple recycling. Reclaimed material is merely one of the languages I use, not the only one. The real focus is mindful transformation. It means taking what already exists and finding new ways for it to deserve its place in the world.

What I do.
An experimental studio.
Saimai is a contemporary, artisanal bookbinding studio. This is where I design and handcraft high-end notebooks, journals, sketchpads, and luxury stationery.
I work with traditional binding methods, analogue print techniques, and direct manual interventions, selecting sustainable papers and rescued materials. Every piece is born from a unique conversation between material, colour, and structure. There is no mass production here—every Saimai is a standalone piece of functional design.

I host creative bookbinding workshops in collaboration with cultural associations for anyone wanting to rediscover the luxury of making and designing with their own hands.

You can write on it, emboss it, fold it, tear it, glue it, paint it, print on it, wet it, crumple it, gild it, recycle it, and bind it. It bears the marks of time without losing a single ounce of its charm.
